Sansy, who is an only child, is an active nine-year-old, living with his parents in Phnom Province in Cambodia. His father works in a factory, and his mother sells snacks from in front of their house. Sansy, who enjoys eating pizza and swimming, would like to be a translator when he grows up. For five years, Sansy has been experiencing difficulty swallowing, frequent throat infections, and snoring at night. He often misses school, and has a hard time concentrating, because he does not sleep well. Sansy was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist, and to intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sansy, which is scheduled to take place on January 8th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. During the procedure, surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sansy of his symptoms, and helping him to live much more comfortably. Sansy's mother said: "I hope my son will get better and stop getting such frequent infections. We don't want to continue spending money on medicines that have not helped him."

Sophal is a 59-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. She lives in Kampong Speu province with her son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Her son and his wife work as ice dealers, while Sophal stays home to care for her grandchildren. At home, Sophal enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and visiting the local pagoda. Two years ago, Sophal was hit by a car in a road accident. She broke her left leg just below and above the knee, and her lower left arm near the wrist. She visited a local hospital for initial surgery and care but due to financial constraints, couldn't afford to complete it. She has been using crutches since her initial surgery and is not able to put weight on her left leg. It is difficult for her to walk, or make it up the stairs in their traditional Khmer stilted house. Sophal also has pain in her wrist and a loss of sensation in her fingers, which could indicate nerve compression. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 17th, Sophal will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will help her walk and regain strength and mobility on her hand. Sophal and her family are able to contribute $87.50 but need help in raising $396 more to fund the procedure. Sophal shared, "I hope to walk again soon to care for my grandchildren and cook for them."

Sena is a two-year-old boy from Ethiopia. Sena's father is a farmer but he was asked to serve in the war. Sena loves driving handmade toy cars. Children in the village make toys with wheels and love to drive them. He also loves to play outdoors with his sister. Sena was born with epispadias, a birth condition affecting the urethra. Because of this condition, he is unable to pass urine properly. If not treated, Sena may have health complications, such as infertility, in the future. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On May 2nd, Sena will undergo corrective surgery for his condition and AMH is requesting $1,040 to fund this procedure. Sena's mother said, “I hope my child will get the treatment and heal. I hope he will be as healthy as other boys. I want to teach him and I hope he becomes a doctor.”
