Hla is a 42-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband in a village in Bago Division. Hla and her husband are farmers.
In early of September 2023, Hla felt a small lump in her right breast. As the lump was not painful and did not cause her any discomfort, she did not seek treatment until the mass started to increase in size. She received an injection from a village health worker, but the mass continued to grow and eventually became slightly painful. Hla experiences slight pain and discomfort in her right breast.
Hla sought treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund. She is now scheduled to undergo mass removal surgery on December 12th. She is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care.
Hla said, “Since my condition has worsened, I cannot help my husband much on the farm. I mostly stay at home and do some household chores. To come to Thailand, I had to borrow money from our neighbors and we need to pay them 5% interest which makes me worried. Thank you to the kind donors and the organization for supporting my treatment cost.”

Hla underwent surgery to treat breast cancer.
After a successful surgery, Hla has experienced a significant improvement in her quality of life, feeling both lighter and happier. She is no longer in pain and can move around more comfortably. This newfound comfort has positively impacted her sleep and eating habits, reducing her stress levels.
Now at her cousin’s home, Hla actively participates in household chores and takes part in cleaning, feeling more capable and helpful. Despite her eagerness to return home after completing her treatment, Hla was disheartened to learn that her family is currently displaced due to ongoing fighting in their region. Her relatives have sought refuge with her cousin’s family in Myawaddy, unable to return home because of the conflict in the country.
In the midst of these challenges, Hla remains profoundly grateful to BCMF and the generous donors who funded her treatment, providing her with hope and support during a difficult time. Hla said, “I really hope that I can return home after my treatment. I would like to say thank you very much to BCMF and the hospital staff who were a part of my treatment. I wish that all the donors and every individual people are a part of my treatment be healthy, happy, and may all your work be more successful.”
With gratitude, Hla also mentioned, “If I did not come to Thailand and meet with BCMF, I will never be able to receive this expensive treatment. My family and I often have to flee from our village because of fighting. Again, thank you for helping me.”
